Ride to Spiti
BEAUTIFUL BUT BRUTAL
The best time to visit the valley would probably be after the rainy season; however, we wanted to experience how a freezing winter would feel like. This was going to be a typical bullet motorcycle trip and hence fetching riding gear took most of our time. Starting late night from Delhi with all sorts of overwhelming feelings and enthusiasm about the journey and the road that lay ahead of us, we’d be riding on the plains up till Chandigarh after which we would reach the foothills and climb further up the Himalayas to the Spiti valley.
The views change dramatically once you start approaching Kalpa/Reckong Peo. Climbing higher up on our way the sights start to become intimidating as the roads are cut through huge boulders of rocks and you make blind turns more frequently. There is an untold thrill of visiting spiti in minimum driving hours.
The terrain is harsh, desolate and inhospitable; as we drive into the high altitude the roads are barely motor able at most of the places. Riding a bullet to spiti is a testing time of courage and high assault on your back and bums.
It takes a high amount of madness to ride on these uninviting yet mesmerizing landscapes and to do it on a bullet in two days; you need to be more than just MAD.
